MEET YOUR TEACHER
Hey, I'm Nana!
I'm an illustrator and sculptor based between NYC and Massachusetts. I grew up in a small New England town by the sea, surrounded by the kind of natural world that continues to inspire my work today.
Over the years, I've had the chance to create art for books, toys, games, museums, augmented reality, and more, while also developing my own collection of personal artwork, now available through major retailers.
My work has always been about exploring characters, creatures, and the little details that make them feel alive. In The Joy of Animals, I'm excited to share the ways I approach drawing animals, from observing real references to experimenting with color, shape, expression, and imagination.

The course has 8 modules for X+ hours of learning.
You can pause and replay the videos as much as you want. The course is suitable for everyone, teens, adults, and children because there is no explicit content. It would be best to take the course in order, because it will start from the basics to lessons at a more advanced level.Â

Modules 1 & 2. Introduction & Getting Started
Get to know the course, find inspiration, and learn how to approach animal drawing in a way that works for you. Weâll cover the tools and space you need, basic shapes, color theory, and ways to draw from real life, photos, and videos without needing expensive equipment.
Modules 3 & 4. Heads and Parts & Bodies
Learn how to break animals down into simple shapes and understand the differences between animal and human anatomy. Explore heads, facial features, expressions, fur, bodies, poses, tails, wings, patterns, and the details that make each animal unique.
Modules 5 & 6. Digital and Traditional & Bird
Explore both digital and traditional techniques, from brushes and layers to color, linework, base colors, shading, and fur details. Then put these skills into practice as you learn to draw a bird from sketch to finished illustration, adding details, flowers, and colors from your imagination.
Modules 7 & 8. Cat & Creature
Follow a cat illustration from the first sketch through linework, color, shading, and final details while picking up practical tips along the way. Then take everything youâve learned into your imagination as you combine references, animals, shapes, and ideas to create your own unique creatures.

We will look together at the materials, basic techniques, and knowledge needed to begin this journey. Approaching a new technique means first learning how best to use the tools at your disposal.
Practical exercises
